GREAT Annual Clean-up
Saturday, September 8th, 2018, 9 AM- 2 PM. Staging area is the CMS Energy Band shell off Cooper St. in Downtown
Jackson. (Map) Parking is available at the adjacent CMS Energy parking garage. Contact us if you bring a canoe (no kayaks). No
need to reserve a boat as GREAT and other canoes will be available. Dress for the weather and to be in or near the water. Gloves, tools, and other equipment will be provided. At conclusion, lunch food provided from various local restaurant vendors. (Flyer). To bring a signed waiver: Adult Minor
The morning of September 8, 2018 was near perfect weather with mid 70's, no wind and rain. There were 79 volunteers, including Junior ROTC Program high school students and a gorup from CMS Energy. About 6 miles of the Grand River was cleaned from East High Street to past Parnell Rd. The 10 cubic yards of trash collected from the Grand River comprising mainly bottles, cans, and styrofoam, but some other items included automobile parts, clothes, furniture, glass, highway barrels, bicycle, and a few tires. The tires were picked up and recycled.
