Sharp Park to E. High St
Grand River

With beautiful weather, 65 paddlers showed up for the joint Dahlem-GREAT annual paddle event. Food provided by Dahlem was enjoyed before the put-in. The river had been chained saw several days in advance, but some new longs showed up after a drop of over a foot in the prior two days. An advance team of cutters tried, but failed to stay ahead of the paddlers. Paddlers helped each other to pull their boats over one uncut log and a few got wet.

Grand Lake to Liberty
Grand River

Pristine Grand Lake is the source of Michigan's longest river, the Grand River which begins its 260 mile, four day flow to Lake Michigan. Over 50 participants came to put in at the small private road culvert to paddle up to Grand Lake and then reverse direction to portage the culvert and proceed to Liberty. Paddlers in the upper reaches experienced some wetlands, mature forest, and a very low farmer's bridge, before entering the flats of Liberty Pond.

Earth Day
Jackson Sparks Foundation Park (Cascades)

The weather could not have been any nicer for the 10th Annual Earth Day event. GREAT had over 100 paddlers use our canoes and kayaks with a majority being youth. Sponsored by the Jackson Area Outdoor Coalition, this is a very nice event for young families and adults of all ages.
